In your journal, reflect on one or more of your memorable, favorite or enjoyable childhood memories. Allow yourself to reminisce and soak in a memory or two. If you have any photographs from your childhood close by, use them to bring these memories into your consciousness.
Write about your memory and include who you were with, what you were doing, the feelings that you experienced and what makes your memory special. Do you remember any sights, smells, noises, tastes or textures in your memory? Reflect on what makes your memory (or memories) stand out today. How does your positive experience from the past relate to your life today? What would it be like to commit to reflecting on positive memories when you are sad?
