As a psychotherapist and relationship coach, I am passionate about spreading mental health awareness and promoting positive and healthy relationships. When I was asked to write an article about dating or being in a relationship with someone experiencing depression, I was really excited about the opportunity because depression is so common (unfortunately!) and while depression may make a relationship more complicated, it does not have to cause a relationship to end. Having healthy coping skills, accurate information (we need to debunk all of the myths floating around!), and effective ways to communicate and support your partner is key for handling depressive symptoms and sustaining relationship health.
